Marjorie completed a Masters program in English/Creative Writing, where she worked on short stories. Workshops were the heart of the program, where groups of about a dozen students did close readings of each other's work and learned to give and receive useful feedback. Process classes, which focused on particular aspects of writing, and graduate and undergraduate literature courses were also part of the program. Marjorie's class was also the last to take orals for the M.A., which focused on three authors selected from different genres and time periods. Marjorie's authors were Isaac Bashevis Singer, Dorothy Sayers, and Shakespeare (just the tragedies).

Reading self-help books is one of Marjorie's favorite guilty pleasures. Some books have had a huge impact. In particular, years ago, "Feeling Good" by David Burns, M.D., was literally life-changing. Her current favorite self-help authors include Rick Hanson and Martha Beck.
Marjorie also enjoys writing in the genre. Here at WriterAccess, she has helped the author of a book on psychological growth for women. She has also written blog posts for sites that provide bite-sized psychological and spiritual advice. She has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, where she learned about psychology as an experimental science, and she is fascinated by the way that science and concepts adapted from Buddhism are coming together in contemporary psychology.
Marjorie R. has written humor for many greeting card companies, including American Greetings. She wrote the copy for a card that won a "Louie," the greeting card industry's less-glamorous equivalent of the Oscar. She has also written political satire.

Marjorie has never lost her sense of awe about the natural world. While not a scientist, when she was in college, she worked in a psychology lab on an experiment that tested the relationship between memory formation and protein synthesis in the brain.
