Melissa has extensive education and experience related to writing. Her educational background includes a B.A. in English, B.S. in Psychology, M.A. in Psychological Services Counseling, and a Doctoral degree in Public Administration. Each of these degrees required extensive research and writing -- particularly the doctoral degree.

Melissa spent a great deal of her career working primarily with non-profits to address a variety of individual, community, and societal issues. During her career, she engaged in multiple types of writing projects, including grants, job descriptions and evaluations, resumes, by-laws and articles of incorporation, policies, correspondence, speeches, and marketing materials. She also wrote columns and brief articles for local media, and created and designed agency newsletters and presentations. She was the editor of the local Rotary newsletter for a few years during her membership. When working in direct human services, she was often responsible for writing daily reports, case profiles, and individualized service plans. She also created training curricula and tests for volunteers and staff, and designed narratives for accreditation processes.

Currently, Melissa is a grants manager at a local community college and is also a member of the Communications and Planning team. She is frequently engaged in grant writing, strategic planning, and publications projects at the college. She often contracts on a part-time basis for resume writing, grant writing, and evaluation with area non-profits and businesses.
